Heat and Time
An installation of over 140 vessels, fired to varying temperatures ranging from greenware, unfired, to stoneware, 1280 degrees Celcius. Many of the pieces exist within a strange liminal space between greenware and bisquware, not quite clay or ceramic. The pieces are filled with water and left to break down over the course of the exhibition. How and if a piece breaks depends on the temperature to which it was fired. Ultimately this artwork is about resources. Audiences are invited to meditate on the permanent footprint we leave when materials are taken from the environment and permanently altered, for better or for worse.
This artwork was exhibited at Home of the Arts as part of the gallery’s inaugural exhibition Solid Gold.
